Writing Success, Failures and Regrets
August 23rd 2010 17:53
Remember my post from January 23? In it, I told you to imagine it was August 23 and asked what you would have achieved by that date. Since it's August 23 today, I ask: What have you achieved as a writer? Where have you succeeded, where have you failed? Do you regret anything you did or didn't do as far as your writing is concerned?
I didn't have any stories published - yet. I'm submitting work to short story competitions, so hopefully I can tick that box by the end of the year. I did, however, get into the writing programme that was top of my list. I'll tell you more about it in about a month when classes start.
Regrets? Well, could have submitted more short stories - it's not really a regret, though. I wrote and sold lots of articles, so I do have a good reason for not writing as many short stories as I had planned in January.
Your turn.

Thanks for your comment and your kind words.
Sailors make passage plans before the journey and then review their actual progress and make necessary corrections. You can never accurately plan for wind direction, strength of tide etc. I try to apply the same process to life: I plan things I want to achieve. A few months later I look back on what I accomplished or didn't accomplish and, more importantly, why or why not so I can adjust the plan to get where I want to be.
