Writing Holidays and Writing Retreats

What are Writing Holidays and Writing Retreats?
A writing holiday is the combination of two wonderful things: writing workshops and a holiday setting. There are writing retreats over the weekend and there are week-long holidays. Often, there are writing classes and workshops in the morning and the afternoons are free for you to do what you want: You can spend the time writing or you can explore your surroundings.
Why Book a Writing Holiday?
There are a number of reasons:
A writing holiday is the ideal opportunity to start writing again after a time when real life got in the way of writing every day.
Writers who do write regularly will benefit from the guidance of a writing tutor and the amount of time they can dedicate to writing. A writing retreat may help them finish a longer story or get started with a new one.
At home, even with time off the day job, writers often get distracted from writing by other things. In a remote place with no household to run, no television to watch and no phone to ring you can concentrate on your writing.
The change of scenery might inspire you.
Where to Go for a Writing Retreat?
Wherever you would like to go. There are offers for writing workshops around the UK and abroad. Do you prefer France, Italy, a Greek Island, the Spanish mainland or one of the Balearic Islands, or would you rather go to the Isle of Wight or Scotland?
If you can't get away from your life for more than a day, there are even one-day writers' retreats in London. Urban Writers Retreats will continue in September and usually take place on the third Sunday of the month.
Please note: This post is rather UK-centric. I'd love to hear about writing retreats for English-speaking writers in other parts of the world - leave your suggestions in the comments.
