Teaching and writing
October 15th 2007 19:57
I was looking for lesson ideas today and came across this quote from the excellent BBC | British Coucil Teaching English site:
"Effective lesson planning is the basis of effective teaching. A plan is a guide for the teacher as to where to go and how to get there. However - don't let the plan dominate - be flexible in your planning so that when the opportunities arise you can go with the flow."
This is excellent advice not only for teaching, but also for writing a novel. Just replace lesson with novel, teaching with writing and teacher with writer - everything elses remains valid.
(My apologies for the long silence. My sister was in London this weekend and I had to spend time with her. Need to catch up on novel planning now, though.)

Writer's Notes
A very interesting comparison between writing and teaching!
When I was homeschooling, I often found it difficult to be flexible and go with the flow; it was so much "easier" to stick to the lesson plan! And I often get caught in the same mindset with writing! Thanks for the reminder!
Great post!

Writing Words
I guess this is the kind of advice that is almost universally true. When you come across it, you ask yourself how you could ever forget it - but as it is with life you sometimes lose sight of the most obvious things.
Thanks for stopping by
