Short Story Competitions
January 26th 2010 20:26
As mentioned in my 2010 writing goals, I want to write a short story every month. To keep up my motivation to write the best stories, I've been looking around for short story competitions. Here's what I found:

International Short Story Competition - deadline: 30th of Jan; max. 2,500 words; £10
Fish Publishing One Page Story Contest - deadline 20th March 2010; max 300 words; EUR12 per online entry
Lorian Hemingway Short Story Competition - deadline 1st of April; max. 3,000 words; $12
2010 Momaya Press Short Story Competition - deadline 30th of April; max. 3,000 words; $12/£8
Leaf Books Nano Fiction Competition - deadline 30th April; max. 100 words; £3 per entry, £10 for four entries
The Bridport Prize - deadline 30th June; short stories max 5,000 words; £7 per story; flash fiction max. 250 words; £5 per entry
Global Short Story Competition - monthly competition; max. 2,000 words; £5 per story (up to four per month)

I suggest you go to the website Duotrope's Digest. You'll find a lot of markets there. Many of the magazines have contests, and it also lists specific contests.
