iPad Excitement
January 27th 2010 22:27
I'm not just a writer. I'm also a geek. I love gadgets and one of my favourite lunch time activities is going to the Apple Store in Regent Street.
So obviously I followed the Engadget live coverage of the iPad keynote.
How does that relate to writing, you ask? Well, I haven't tried it yet, but I hope that I will be able to touch-type on the virtual keyboard. In 2008, I typed bits of my NaNo story on my iPhone on the train. Even on the small keyboard I managed to write around 400 words on the 40 minute journey. I thought if they'd ever launched a device with a decent-sized keyboard, I would be able to write almost as much as on my laptop.
Now I don't spend as much time on trains as in 2008 as I live in Central London now. Still, there are evenings when I'm on the tube for 15-20 minutes - enough time to draft a blog post, say. I often jot down key points on the phone, but with a bigger keyboard, I could write the whole post.
It will be at least two months until the iPad is available. I'd best start saving then.
