Don't make excuses

So you would like to write a novel, you say. But ... (insert excuse as appropriate).
Let me tell you one thing: writing a novel is not the hardest part. Even if you have a life apart from writing fiction, it can be done in 30 days.
Let me tell you another thing: you may write a novel in 30 days, but don't think that the publishers will tear it out of your hands in December. No, the truth is, your novel will most likely be awful. You will face many painful editing sessions before you even want to show it to your friends.
But let me tell you one last thing: that's ok. Nobody wants you to write prose ready to go to the printer. NaNoWriMo is all about writing the first draft of that story that has been dancing around in your mind. While you write it down, you will often step on its feet and make it lose its grace. But there will be moments when you and your story will be in perfect sync with the tune and you will lead it to another level where it would never have gotten on its own.
Now let me ask you a question: Doesn't that sound like it is worth a try?
