Writing Words - writing it is the only way of getting it written

The best online writing challenges

January 5th 2010 20:39
As with all the best things this month, the following list is highly subjective. I think these are the best online writing challenges but I'm curious to see what your favourites are.

NaNoWriMo - Write a 50k novel in the month of November. (I didn't really have to explain this, did I?) This was the writing challenge that took me to the next level as a newish writer, it will always be my favourite because of that.

NaBloPoMo - Write a blog post every day for a month. NaBloPoMo started out as the blogging equivalent to NaNoWriMo, but they've gone year-round a while ago, so now you can challenge yourself to blogging every day all year.

April Fools - Goal:wWhatever you want to accomplish in the month of April - you have to state your goal on the forums so it can be determined if you've reached it. I completed or edited novel drafts during April two or three times and made my goal every time. I prefer April Fools to NaNoEdMo when it comes to editing my NaNoWriMo beasts.

NaBloPoMo November 2009 winner

November 30th 2009 21:35
Yay - so turns out I can write a blog post every day. Okay, they haven't been long and insightful, but I didn't say I would do that. My taking part in NaBloPoMo this November was all about challenging myself to write something here every day.

NaBloPoMo - I did it
NaBloPoMo - I did it

The tricky thing now will be to keep up the good work. I might not post every day. Hopefully my posts will get longer and more insightful (at least occasionally). I have no idea yet what I want this blog to become, but I'll figure it out as I go along.

November challenges

November 12th 2009 22:28
There's NaNoWriMo, obviously. (Writing today has been much easier than yesterday, so yay!)

Then there is NaBloPoMo, which started as a November event before it went monthly about two years ago. And if you had a go at NaBloPoMo but had to drop out (or even if you're still going strong with the daily blog posts), there's IComLeaveWe. Why, International Comment Leave Week, of course. It's a monthly event, too, and starts at the 21st of every month. The rules: post five comments on blogs and return one comment made on you blog every day for a week.

NaBloPoMo June theme: Heroes

May 31st 2009 11:45
The NaBloPoMo for June is Heroes.

If you want to participate, make sure you're added to the June blogroll. As usual, the theme is not prescriptive, so if you want to post on other subjects, you'll be fine.

If you've never heard of NaBloPoMo, it's a monthly blogging challenge. The theme is meant to help you find topics for posts, but it's optional. If you have enough ideas for a post a day on something else, you can join, too. The only important thing is to post once a day at least. Leaving comments on other participants' blogs is also encouraged.

If you decide to join, let me know and I'll cheer you on!
