Back up your writing

A little over two years ago, my old laptop died. Luckily, I had a back-up plan.

With NaNoWriMo kicking off just about now (in the UK), I'd like to draw your attention to backing up your work regularly. Do you have a back-up strategy? Do you stick to it? If you don't back up your work, imagine for a second that you couldn't access your hard drive anymore. How does that make you feel?

Backing up your work doesn't take long, and you will never have to worry about losing all your work.

I wrote about the free novel writing tool yWriter4 a while back.

I'm sure yWriter5 has been out for a while, so this isn't exactly news. Still, I want to point it out. It is a great tool for Windows and Linux (not all distributions, though) and has helped a lot of people write their novels over the years.

How To Think Sideways closes on Friday

Holly Lisle's excellent How To Think Sideways course for aspiring writers will close on Friday for new students. If you are looking for a course that'll teach you everything from coming up with ideas to how to pitch your story to agents, look no further. HtTS covers all this, and more. Even though I was a seasoned aspiring writer when I signed up for the course a year ago today, I learned a lot about my creativity and why I write what I write - invaluable insights.

The course will be open for new students again some time next year, but seriously, don't wait that long.
